Alaskan Silver Salmon
Whether you fly fish or spin cast, the fishing is spectacular on the Deshka River, in Alaska.
The Deshka River, located about 40 miles northwest of Anchorage in the Susitna Drainage, is home for large runs of king salmon, silver salmon, and plentiful rainbow trout.

The Silver Salmon, also known as Coho, begin their run in mid July and by the first
of August there are plenty of Silvers in the river to make for a promising day of fishing. Large runs and ample daylight provide perfect conditions to cast for the fish of your dreams. Silvers in the 8-10 pound class are average and many in the teens will test your skill and put a smile on your face.

Arguably, Silvers are the hardest fighters (pound for pound) of all of the salmon. The best way to catch Silvers is with eggs. Whether it is
bounced with some lead or suspended under a bobber, Silver Salmon just love a good glob of roe. Fly fisherman catch their fair share of fish as well and it is not uncommon, when the water is low, to catch a Silver Salmon on a top water fly!

A typical day on the Deshka River starts with a warm breakfast followed by a boat ride up the river. After landing some fish and enjoying the sights, you'll head back to the lodge for a relaxing dinner and a crash course in filleting your catch of the day. If you are still in the mood, you can always head out
after dinner for a few more casts before bed.
You can stay at the Schwager Haus B&B located on Gene Lake near the Deshka Landing. Cozy
cabins sleep 2-4 guests and each cabin has a private bathroom. You'll enjoy home cooked gourmet meals and beautiful scenery when you're not out on the water.
